Bubbsi founder, Sweta Doshi, shared it all with Glamour magazine for their "By Women" feature. Read the excerpts at Glamour.com, or the full Q&A below:
1. Introduce yourself: both as a mom and a businesswoman.
I’m a NYC mom of three, and a brand builder at heart. I spent a decade in the beauty world before taking a ‘pause’ to grow my family - not realizing that I’d be trading the corporate ladder for the rollercoaster of entrepreneurship! Motherhood inspired me to create something that blends my love of skincare with the beautiful chaos of raising kids. Now I’m building a business I love, with the cutest little helpers by my side.
2. How did you get the idea for your company?
My newborn daughter was diagnosed with eczema, and despite my years in the industry, I was still a frustrated mom searching for a skincare solution. I scoured the shelves for natural relief, but only the petroleum-based products or steroids were effective. I turned to my Indian roots: organic coconut oil. Daily massages worked wonders, but it was a greasy mess. That was the genesis of Bubbsi – deeply nourishing, coconut-powered skincare, made easy for parents and fun for little ones.
3. What parenthood pain point were you trying to solve?
Sadly, not all babies have "baby soft skin," and newborn skin issues are real and common. Beyond the rashes, there’s the heartbreak of seeing your sweet baby uncomfortable. And as kids grow, establishing healthy skincare routines can become a struggle. That’s why I created a brand that gives parents peace of mind without the compromise—natural AND effective. Not boring and in fact, joyful! Bubbsi delivers it all. Our clean, effective formulas and adorable bottles turn daily routines into playtime. Happy skin, happy kids, happy parents!
4. How do you balance motherhood and entrepreneurship?
Balance is a daily tightrope walk and a constant work in progress. But six years in, I've learned to intentionally design a career that empowers me as a mom. Being a self-funded business gives me that control. I focus on profitability over breakneck growth, set focused priorities for my small team, and fiercely guard my time. Saying 'no' is often my superpower, which allows me to draw boundaries and be present for my kids. I’m deeply grateful for the support of my incredible husband and my ‘village’ of at-home help, friends and family that give me a solid foundation. And I’m proud to have built a team that supports several other freelancing moms that are finding this same balance.
5. What are some misconceptions you see about moms and parenting products?
So many parenting brands push an unrealistic, unattainable picture of perfection, but there’s no such thing as perfect people! I’m mindful not to exploit insecurities in our marketing. Instead, we focus on educating and bringing joy, rather than relying on fear-mongering or playing on vulnerabilities. We believe this approach builds more trust with our customers, who in turn share their experiences with their own communities. Word-of-mouth recommendations are the lifeblood of any mom/parenting-focused business, and our transparency and "keep it real" approach is how we make that happen.
6. What’s been the hardest thing you’ve dealt with as a business owner?
Honestly, every day feels like a masterclass in problem-solving! I’ve had to dump entire production batches of shampoo, deal with bottles that were literally falling apart, battle major unexpected cost increases, and see a retail deal fall apart at the last minute. The hardest part is to not let those moments define (or end) this journey. In the early days, every challenge felt like a sign that this wasn’t the right path. But now I’ve honed my mental game - I can silence the doubt and trust that my gut, experience and amazing team will guide me through the next uncertainty.
7. What has been your proudest moment?
We’ve sold hundreds of thousands of products, but each individual story feels like a win. I still read every customer review, good and bad, and when a parent writes to say Bubbsi transformed their baby's skin and allowed them to sleep easier - that's success. It's not just about selling products; it's about making a tangible difference in someone’s life. Those reviews buoy me even on the toughest days.
8. What product would you like to highlight in “By Women” and why?
Our bestselling Newborn Starter Set takes the guesswork out of skincare. It's a complete routine – gentle cleanser, nourishing cream, and a protective balm – all powered by organic coconut oil and built to tackle any skin or scalp issue your little one might face. Each product is over 95% naturally-derived, EU compliant, and pediatrician approved. Plus - little ones adore our playful, squeezable animal bottles and parents love that they are refillable!
9. What’s your best advice for aspiring women entrepreneurs?
Despite what you see on Instagram, entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint. My best advice is: dream big, but plan smarter. Get crystal clear on your goals upfront - what does success look like for you? How are you realistically going to get there? Use data, plan your resourcing, model your finances. Things will inevitably go sideways, but with a solid plan, unwavering focus and a healthy dose of resilience, you've got this.
10. What do you hope to accomplish in the future?
Bubbsi in every bathroom! Clean, effective, joyful bodycare for the whole family, from babies to grandparents. That's the dream.
